Power Systems Optimization (PSO)


Paladin DesignBase Power System Optimization platform is a security-constrained optimal power flow software that also serves as a tool for optimal sizing and placement of reactive power resources (reactors, capacitors, and SVC). It is capable of handling power systems comprising thousands of buses, and has been used to optimize the planning and operation of some of the world's largest and most complex power systems.

PSO understands the electrical engineer's design intent and optimization objectives, while also taking into account the physical and operating constraints of their power system infrastructure. Based on this information, it intelligently provides recommendations to optimize your power infrastructure -- taking into account normal operation parameters, as well as multiple, varying configurations.

It can also assist engineers in minimizing system losses, perform economic dispatch, minimize load shedding, plan reactive power resources, and optimize system voltage profile with minimum control setting adjustments. PSO can also optimize switching strategies to minimize the effect of overloaded lines and sudden increases in load conditions.

PSO can help electrical engineer refine and optimize their power infrastructure in numerous ways:
